The world of sports is extremely competitive and only the most skilled, gifted and luckiest athletes become international stars. A professional swimmer Michael Phelps is one of them!
He drew his first breath in Baltimore, Maryland and was one of the three kids in a family. His mother Deborah worked as a school principal and his father Michael was a football player. As a kid, a future star had Hyperactivity disorder as well as Attention Deficit. That’s why parents decided to get him into swimming. From the very first lesson he started demonstrating extraordinary results and by the age of 10 he was already breaking records. He was so good at swimming that he qualified for the Olympics 2000 being just 15years old. There, he took fifth place. However, it was just the beginning.
The main breakthrough in his career happened at the Olympics in Athens, where he won 8 medals with 6 of them being gold. In 2008 he took part at the Olympics in Beijing and broke a record by winning 8 gold medals. Then he competed at the Olympics 2012 in London and 2014 in Brazil, where he also broke worldwide records.
Throughout his career, Phelps managed to win 19 Olympic gold medals and break 32 world records.
